Conviction- becoming aware of your sinful nature and diversion from the path of righteousness

The convicting nature of the Holy Spirit
Is it good?
Yes indeed.

  • It pushes us unto the path of righteousness

  • It breaks bondages

  • It frees us from chains

  • It ultimately leads us to live holy lives ( lives set apart for the glory of God)

How the Spirit works?

He makes us uncomfortable in our sin or unfaithfulness to the Lord. When Peter denied Jesus three times, conviction fell upon him so heavily that he wept bitterly ( Luke 22:54-62) . Some may say Peter felt guilty in that situation but I believe he was convicted. This is because, after realizing the act he had committed, Peter turned back to the Lord and lived a life following Christ wholeheartedly. The Spirit makes us realize our uncleanliness in a loving manner. He doesn’t judge but corrects and disciplines. Scripture speaks on how the Lord disciplines those He loves ( Hebrews 12:6).

Let’s allow the Spirit to convict us and work on us fully because through His Work, we establish God’s plan for His creation.

Recently I read Judges chapter 1 and it’s basically about how a new generation of the Israelites neglect the Lord and His ways and worship other gods. This new generation are unaware of what the Lord has done for the Israelites in Egypt and in the wilderness.

Now, one thing the Holy Spirit revealed to me is that, at any point in our lives, we are worshipping something, whether it be God or man or materialistic stuff.

Lately also, the Holy Spirit was speaking about how men have become worshippers and lovers of themselves ( 2 Timothy 3:2). These days, we are so concerned about our OWN well-being and happiness. Now, that is not a bad thing but once our happiness is prioritised over living a life that pleases God, then it becomes a problem. As a Christian, you have signed up to die. That is, you have signed up to live completely for the Lord so your desires are being sacrificed ( Matthew 16:24) . Moreover, it’s no longer about what you want but what He wants and what makes Him happy. Hope that makes sense!

I’ve found myself placing my desires above His but I’ve repented of that and so can you. The next step was to shift my focus and fix my eyes back on Him. This can’t be done with human effort but by the leading of the Holy Spirit. It’s about intentionally allowing Him to direct your steps and intentionally listening to His instructions and convictions.

So, let’s shift our focus today.

Let Jesus be the centre of it all because He is truly worthy.

Growing in our relationship with the Lord is something most Christians desire eagerly at some point in their relationship with Him.

When that desire fills your heart, you start realising that you can’t think of anything but to know more, see more, understand more and love more.

One major thing the Lord has taught me about spiritual growth is that, in order to grow in the SPIRIT, one must make a conscious effort to remember and reflect on previous seasons.

Child of God, it may seem that there’s nothing going on for you in your faith journey but take some time to sit and reflect on what the Lord has done for you previously.
  • Remember that He is still El Roí

  • Remember that He is Emmanuel, God with us

  • Remember that He is still Jehovah Jireh and Jehovah Nissi

  • Remember He is the same God who revealed mysteries to Daniel ( Daniel 1:17)

  • Remember He is the same God who restored Job ( Job 42:10-17)

  • Remember He is still the same Father who provided a blessing to Hannah ( 1 Samuel 2:1-21)

  • Remember He is still the same Redeemer who delivered Paul (Acts 9:1-21)

  • Remember He is the everlasting Father

Remember HE IS I AM

Cultivate remembrance during your faith journey. Remember who He has been to you and who He has been to others.Remember Him in the season of your life where He revealed His many personalities not merely because of what He has done for you but because of who He is.

The Christian life is a journey

Someone may take a left turn and reach his or her destination in 2 hours and you may take a right turn and reach your destination in 4 hours. Everyone’s journey is different so some may be moving faster than others but that doesn’t mean you aren’t on the right path. Rather, it clarifies the fact that the Lord has a different plan for each and every one of us ( Jeremiah 29:11).
